Highgate. It is about a two hour drive there and then you have to turn around and drive back. When we arrived back in MoBay we decided to have lunch at a place called Pier 1. It is one of the Elders favorite places to eat. The food is not bad but the location is awesome. Below is a picture of Elder Sorensen and the two elders, Elder Randle and Elder Condor, looking out over the bay.
On Saturday, the 12th of February, was Elder Walkers funeral and burial in SavLa Mar. Several members from the Montego Bay branch charted a bus so they could attend the funeral services for Elder Walker. It is about an hour and a half drive from here. Elder Sorensen and I decided to go on the bus instead of drive. We were really glad we did for it turned out to be a fun and rewarding experience. Another senior couple from Ochi also went on the bus with us, the Russels. The bus drivers here in Jamaica drive pretty fast and are always honking the horn for someone to get out of their way. Elder Russel made the comment that he felt like he was on "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride". The two missionaries pretended as they were our tour guides. They would make comments about various things we passed like cows, goats, people, and buildings. It was really pretty funny. Below are a few pictures of people on the bus.
The funeral was at the Sav La Mar LDS chapel and it was very nice. The chapel was full and also the foyer. After the funeral the burial took place in the small community of Welcome, which was about another hours drive due to the road conditions. Elder Sorensen and I had been there before to visit with the family after Elder Walkers passing. The burial spot was in the Grandfather's yard right next to where they had buried his mother. The Grandfather remembered us and welcomed us back. He said that he had been looking for us and was wondering if we would be there. He is a real nice man. We are hoping to go back and visit him soon. Here are pictures of the burial site. They don't put the casket in the ground. They have a cement box that is above ground and they put the casket into it. Then they seal it of with cement. Everyone stays right there while they do all this. The Elders helped seal the box. Some call it a sepulcher.
Then after the burial it was back on the bus and continue our journey back to MoBay. We stopped on the way home at a Jerk Shop and got something to eat. We had jerked pork. It was the best jerked meat I have ever eaten since we have been here. We just had a missionary finish his mission here in Jamaica from the Montego Bay branch and he went on the bus with us. His name is Gregory Allen. He was assistant to the President. He will really be an asset to our branch. Here is a picture of him and another member named Trish.
