April Conferrence 2011

The most exciting thing that has happened in the past two weeks was the opportunity that we had to watch, by satellite, all sessions of general conference. Here in MoBay most members seem real excited for conference to come, but when it is here there is not a real great turnout. Saturday there were just a few in attendance other than us and the other two missionaries serving here. Sunday's attendance was much better. We totally enjoyed it. It is just like any other Sunday meeting, members have a hard time coming up with the taxi fare or they have to work.

The economy continues to suffer here just like all throughout the world. People can't find jobs and when they do, the pay is very little. The electricity is generated by fuel and with the high cost of fuel it makes the electricity very expensive. Last month we paid $240.00, U.S., for our electric bill. We don't have a clothes dryer and only run our air conditioner just a short time before we go to bed so our bedroom can get cooled down. To fuel our truck it is equivalent to $5.10 a gallon U.S. The exchange rate today was 83.9 cents to one Jamaica dollar.

We continue to visit the inactives, giving them love and encouragement to come back to activity. Here in the Mobay branch there are around 400 members and 85% of them are inactive for some reason or another. The MoBay branch covers a large area, close to 15 miles in each direction from the center of the branch. We have been working with the Elders trying to find some of these people, which is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. So you see are work is really cut out for us.

I'm attaching a few pictures of an area we went with the Elder's to teach an investigator. There is a lot of poverty in some areas.
